He has committed acts 10,000 times as bad – the present calculation of deaths resulting from his reductions to foreign assistance amounts to 600,000 and rising, and recently research predicted his petroleum strategies would result in fatalities another 1.3 million. No previous president would have dared – genuinely, no previous leader would have imagined – unilaterally destroying major areas of the White House to construct a Versailles-style party room, with the active collaboration of some of the nation's most affluent, nearly all of which have business with the government.

As bewildering as it is to witness the chief executive attempt to overturn the established notion regarding democracy and replace it with its polar opposite, there is one large group among Americans who might not perceive it entirely new. This includes individuals like us – within elder demographics almost a majority – who were educated within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have witnessed across decades as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we were raised with into the total contrary of our perception of his character. Essentially, they transformed an image of love into a figure of animosity who endorses exactly the harshness that he condemned in scripture; this transformation occurred more slowly, across decades as opposed to months, yet it remains disturbing via comparable methods, a confusing personal impact for many of us.
A Harmful Christianity Gains Ground

A Battle for the Highest Among Us
